On August 22, I had the pleasure of meeting one of our newest staffers, Alexa Hemmers. Alexa wanted to join the yearbook after taking Digital Design in her Freshman Year. She thought taking yearbook would be “…a great opportunity…” because she loves to write and take photographs. She started her writing path “…in 6th grade for fun…”, but, it eventually led to a hobby which led to “…something I love to do…”. She also stated that she is very “…excited to become a better writer…”. While talking about her position as a new writer for the yearbook, we also got into what she did over the summer. She said that she spent most of her time with her family and teammates, as she is on the Cross Country and Track team. She said that one of the biggest things she did over the summer was go to Vero Beach for a week with her family. She said, “…it’s one of our favorite places to go…” because the beach was a walking distance away from their rental house. She also stated that it was quite enchanting to “…just walk to the beach with her family…” and “…spend all day in the pool…” in their backyard. She also loved spending time with her family at dinner which included “…icecream nights…” and going to a really good restaurant called Scampi Grill to celebrate her dad’s birthday. Overall, Alexa is very excited to be on the yearbook staff and even more excited to”…get more involved and write in a different format than I usually do.”.
Here we have Alexa working hard on her first yearbook story on The Perch.
