About

PURPOSE

It is The Perch’s goal to provide Sunlake High School and all of its stakeholders with current events as it relates to the school, community, and beyond.  This publication will hold itself to the high standards to ethical journalism and serve as a documentation of each school year through the student’s perspective.

HISTORY

Mr. Webster giving a lecture on photography. Spring 2018.

Upon arriving at Sunlake High School as a Learning Design Coach, Mr. Webster noticed that there was only a yearbook publication and no student newspaper.  Traditionally most schools have, at minimum, two publications.  Once Mr. Webster returned back to the classroom as a teacher, he took it upon himself to initiate the creation of the schools first student newspaper known as “The Nest”.  It launched during the 2019-2020 school year. It struggled getting off the ground and with persistence and creativity he was able to use his yearbook production class to use their content for the student newspaper.  The newspaper was rebranded as “The Perch” on its second year.   During the 2024-2025 school year, under the direction of Dr. Bardach, the Journalism class joined in contributing to The Perch.
