On Friday night the Sunlake varsity football team played an away game against Weeki Wachee High School and ended up winning the second game of this year’s season with a score of 40-22. Seahawks are starting their season strong with two consecutive wins! Senior, Grayson Gilmore is a football player on the varsity team and has been playing all four years of high school. Last year, Grayson had attended Gaither High School, but for his senior year, he came back to Sunlake because, “Coach Fulmer was building a great program, and I wanted to be a part of why Sunlake was great again.” While Grayson sadly couldn’t play that game due to getting injured at the last one, that did not stop him from showing up for his team and watching them succeed. Grayson says that before going into this game the team felt, “locked in and focused to get the first win of the season.” While making a few mistakes during the beginning of the game, by the end the team had cleaned up their mistakes, leading to the win. His favorite part of the game was when one of the coaches gave the team a good speech, which made the team go into the second half of the game with a better attitude. Not many people came out to support this game due to the distance, but Grayson says he expects the home opener game to, “have a big turnout.”
