Key club had their first meeting on the 26th, and plenty of members were excited to start the new school year with Key Club again. The class of 2027 officer, sophomore Mara Crockett, was ecstatic to get the year started again. “I feel that the first meeting went really well. I was happy to see how many new people were in the club, and I was also happy to see how many people were returning.” Mara liked Key Club last year before she was an officer, but now she’s even more excited because she’s taken on a more authoritative role this year. “I’m the class of 2027 officer,” She explained. “I specifically help the people in the club who are apart of the class of 2027 with whatever they need help with.”. More often than not, people join Key Club to earn service hours, and then
quit the next year. But Mara has been dedicated to the club since her Freshman year. “At first I joined to get my service hours,” Mara joked. “but the club is really fun, we work at the middle school a lot and we get to do a lot of fun events. And I’ve met my best friends in this club.” She said. Mara really has found her place at Sunlake working with Key Club, with some of her favorite parts of the school year coming from Key Club. “My favorite part of Key Club is getting to volunteer at different events and getting to do it with all of my friends. Especially holiday events.” She said. Mara is pretty much excited for “…all of the events this school year.”, but she’s most excited to get to know the new members of the club. “…I hope that the new students who have joined the club end up loving it as much as I do.” Mara said happily. One thing that is crystal clear for new members is that they always have a reliable and passionate club member to help them as long as Mara Crockett is in Key Club.
