On Wednesday August 28th, the Sunlake girl’s volleyball team beat Wiregrass 3-0. Ava Zalta, a junior setter for the Seahawks, helped in the win. “We felt really confident about the game,” Ava said. “Our coach looked at film and told us what we needed to look out for.” Ava has been playing volleyball for 8 years and she also plays club volleyball for at the Orlando Tampa Volleyball Association (OTVA). As a setter, Ava helps the hitters get kills and runs the offense helping them so they are able to score in the best way possible. When she was younger, Ava’s stepdad played volleyball in Puerto Rico. “We started peppering in the backyard and I wanted to try indoor.” Peppering is a volleyball drill where two players practice hitting the ball to one another with different techniques (bump, set, spike). Ava’s favorite part of volleyball is the community and her teammates. “Sunlake volleyball is like a big family and we all love each other and are always supporting one another no matter what.” The Sunlake team plays on Tuesdays and Thursdays. “We love having the crowds energy, it makes the games more fun, especially when everyone dresses in theme.” Come out and support your team, lets go Seahawks!
