Senior Mia Martin has been in the pool since she was in 5th grade, though she took a two-year break before getting back into swimming during her freshman year. Ever since then, swimming has been a big part of her life. With the swim season just starting off, Mia had her first meet on August 21st. She’s really looking forward to this season, especially since it’ll be her last one. Mia shared, “I’m most excited to enjoy this season with my friends. It’s my final season, so I’m just thrilled to swim with the team and make the most of it.”
One of the hurdles Mia is getting ready to tackle this season is her knee problem. The pain from her injury can really affect her swim performance and morale, but she’s ready to push through. Despite this, Mia’s favorite event is the 500 Freestyle.
She’s also formed a strong bond with her teammates. What she loves most is how by the end of the season, everyone becomes super close. Mia said, “We hang out, talk, and just enjoy each other’s company, even after the season ends.” Swimming has become a huge part of Mia’s Sunlake experience, and she’s grateful for the sense of security it has given her.
