As the first week of school is off to a full swing, students are bursting with excitement to be back on Campus. Among them is Westley Swank, who prefers to go by the nickname “Wes,” and is currently a Junior here at Sunlake High School. When asked about how his first day was, he stated that, “It was fine.”
“I don’t have any first and second periods, so I got here after the second period, and then just did all my schoolwork, went to class, and then just like went home, went to work, that’s pretty much it,” recounted Wes, who is anticipating this to be his daily routine for the next 10 months. Mr. Wes is enrolled in four classes this semester, three of which being college level courses. He described his classes this year as, “chill.”
In addition to Wes’s regular classes, he is a prominent member of Sunlake’s Civil Air Patrol Program, an experience that he describes as “alright.” “I mean, it’s kind of like ROTC almost: just do drill, leadership, aerospace and some character development,” He explains, “You know, just kind of teaches you how to be a good around person for that portion of it, and then like, you learn general military customs and courtesy and stuff like that.” When asked if he is considering join the military after high school, Wes replied that he was, “thinking about it.” However, regardless of what the future holds for him, Westley Swank is looking forward to another great year at Sunlake High School.
