Running out of school and sleeping in on a Monday, lots of students were stoked for their three day weekend last week. But did they ever stop and think why they were gifted an extra day off? It was because of Labor day. Labor day celebrates the social and economical achievements of American workers. It allows people to appreciate the hard work this country has done to get it where it is today. Corban Iverson, a sophomore at Sunlake highschool, was asked what labor day meant to him and he responded, “Labor day makes me proud of my grandpa. Proud of what the older generations did to make America what it is now.” Corban’s grandpa is a World War II veteran that served in the navy. After his service, he worked as a regional manager for an oil company in Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Iverson is now retired but volunteers at a mail office twice a week to help out his community. His family is incredibly proud of his hard work and loves him very much. Corban spent this holiday with family and friends. They had a blast cooking out and playing games. “It was an exhausting but a fun day” Corban recalls “I got to hang out with friends and watch a funny movie.” After the cookout Corban and his friends went to the movie theaters and watched the new Deadpool movie. Even though he had to get up early the next day and pay the price for staying out, he was glad to have spent the day with the people he loves most.
