Labor day is a significant holiday symbolizing rest and family time. Labor Day serves as a reminder of the hard work made by those before us and their sacrifices remind us of the value of family time. When Alia Collins, a sophomore, was asked what labor day means to her and she responded, “Labor day to me is rest and family time because we don’t know how much time we have left so I take all the time I have to hangout with my family.” Alia spent Labor Day having quality time with her family at Disney and playing basketball. She says her family often takes trips to Disney during Labor day, so they can escape reality and recover from the long week. In addition to going to Disney, Alia spends time playing a game of basketball with her family. Labor day embodies rest and family time for Alia. It highlights both gratitude for past laborers’ and the importance of living fully in the present moment with those we love to make the most of however much time we have left.
