With all the excitement focused on homecoming, there are some students who took time out of buying dresses and skit practice to make some teachers day. On Monday, September 16th many key club members gathered in the cafeteria and created sweet cards to hand out to teachers to show how much the students at Sunlake high school appreciate them. Key club is an internationally student lead organization that has been a hotspot for community service and leadership development since its formation. According to Amelie Pham Diep, a 10th grader at Sunlake and an officer for Key club, the mission of Key club is, “to build community and provide service for the entire nation.” The students who took time out of their day to help other people not only bettered others, but also themselves. Key club organizes Trick or Treat Around the Track, a hot coco run to raise funds for runners, packs food for the homeless, and helps out teachers any way they can. But the impact of Key Club extends far beyond local communities. Internationally, Key Club members have contributed to global initiatives by supporting UNICEF’s, “Eliminate Project” to combat maternal and neonatal tetanus, as well as various environmental and disaster relief efforts. These kids are truly showing their initiative to make the world a better place. When asked about her most memorable moment, Athena Saccommanno (11th grade) laughed and said, “I loved seeing the little kids faces while they were making Christmas ornaments with their families. It really touched my heart to see how happy we made them.” Key club members are working everyday to change the world one life at a time, and it truly is making a difference. Keep up the great work guys and never let your spirt die!
