On September 11th, the swim team had yet another exciting swim competition. Sophomore, Cameron Dunn is one of the many talented members of the team who participated in the competition on Wednesday. Cameron explained that the swim team works extremely hard for these meets. From getting up in the early hours of the morning to dedicating even more time after a long day of school, it would be a disservice to say that their hard work doesn’t pay off. “Meets are just something we have every Wednesday, you need to have participated in a certain amount of meets to go to conference so we plan them all out and make sure we have one to fill up every Wednesday afternoon,” the sophomore explained. The team has done several meets this season already, but Cameron thinks that the meet against Mitchell High School was one of the team’s best ever. Cameron said that at the meeting the team, “…raced against the Mitchell swim team at our home pool.” Cameron is extremely proud of her team and herself for what they’ve accomplished at this competition. “We did amazing. Both the Sunlake girls and Sunlake boys beat Mitchell’s boys and Mitchell’s girls by a lot,” stated Cameron. Unfortunately, the swim meet did have it’s downfalls. “We had a weather delay for a little bit but we still did good at the match when it finally happened so it was fine.” While Cameron described this meet as being one of the teams best overall, she personally did her best at the meet that day. “I swam 100 freestyle, 100 backstroke, a 200 freestyle relay, and a 400 freestyle relay,” Cameron explained. “It was my first time doing the 100 backstroke event at a meet this season, and it’s easily my favorite event,” She said excitedly. Not only did she accomplish the 100 backstroke event for the first time, but Cameron also, “…dropped two seconds in [her] 100 freestyle,” which was one of her main goals for the season, making this one of the best meets Cameron has ever been to. Cameron knows that
being on the team takes a lot of dedication, and she knows she won’t see results overnight, but when they do begin to show like they did that night, “…it’s all worth it.” She said happily. Overall, the meet was very successful for Cameron and her fellow team members, and she hopes going forward that they can continue to do this well at every meet.
