Picture day is one of the most important days of the school year for some students. It’s the day where you capture who you are as a person in high school and you’ll be able to look back on the picture for years to come. So, that is why it is crucial to certain students that their picture is absolutely perfect. Junior Mia Young was really excited for picture day this year. “I really enjoy getting dressed up and doing my makeup for my picture, it’s a lot of fun…and I’m a part of yearbook staff so I get to volunteer during some of my periods and help get people checked in to take their photos.” she explained. Mia is a junior, which unfortunately means that this was her last time having a picture day to get ready for. “I was honestly not sad but not happy when I realized that I had only one more picture to take in the yearbook after this one, but that was also why I was so determined to make this picture a good one.” Mia had a bad experience getting her picture taken last year for the yearbook, she explained that “…it looked really bad, they made me put a sweater over my off the shoulder t-shirt, so I wasn’t wearing what I wanted to,” she said. “Also, my haircut was done really badly that year and I didn’t smile, it was just a mess!” She said laughing. Luckily, Mia felt much more prepared this year and she was really happy with how her picture came out! “I really liked it this year, it’s really strange comparing it to the years before and seeing how much I’ve grown up without even realizing,” the junior stated. When thinking about the years past and how the pictures represent us through the years, Mia is really appreciative that she has these pictures to look back on. “I feel that each portrait, 9th, 10th, 11th, all tell a story of who we were as people each year, all of our interests, the makeup routine we did, our favorite shirt, whether you think you were being cringey or not, I really value having these pictures to remind me of those times,” Mia explained. Mia is overjoyed that her portrait came out good this year, and she had a lot of fun volunteering to help others get their pictures taken. “Others probably don’t feel the same way about their pictures in the yearbook now, but I hope when their older they can appreciate them more.”.
