Friday Night Lights at Sunlake High School turned into Saturday Night Lights when the Seahawks faced the Wiregrass Ranch Bulls after Hurricane Helene passed through Florida. The Hurricane canceled school on both Thursday and Friday, so for the football team, the days leading up to Saturday’s game looked very different. Sunlake Junior, Christian Canarte explained that on the days that he had missed due to the hurricane, he had to prepare for the game by trying to condition and workout inside of his house due to the weather conditions outside. On game-day, the lively atmosphere that would normally flow through the team on a Friday had disappeared. Christian said that, “The game was terrible. Everyone was tired, unmotivated, and unconditioned. The mood was off, and the energy was low.” The Seahawks put up a fight, but fell to the Bulls 42-0. Helene’s effect ended up making Saturday Night Lights an unfortunate failure. Christian explains that in preparation for the Homecoming Game against Gulf High School the following Friday, he will need to, “Work more on his technique and play through the whistle,” to defeat the Buccaneers before the big dance on Saturday.
