While many of us were excited for the Homecoming football game and, of course, the Homecoming dance, there were many events leading up to Friday night. Powderpuff was in the lineup as one of the events that students always look forward to seeing. Whether you’re cheering for your grade level or just there to see what Powderpuff even is, it’s always a fun time. While our current sophomores, juniors, and seniors have had some experience, our newcomers, the freshman, have had their first crack at it.
Mason Rivera-Osborne, Freshman, was on the boys’ Powderpuff team this year and had his first opportunity to cheer as the girls’ Powderpuff teams battled it out in a series of flag football matches between the grades. While most people coming into a new school would be nervous about getting involved, Mason was “pretty chill” about being a part of the team. To be able to do their routine to the best of their ability, Mason and his team were “taught by [our] group leaders” and “went with the flow” instead of stressing about the routine. For the audience, the most entertaining part of Powderpuff is watching the boys cheer in general. For Mason, the best part was, “cheering at the other teams,” because, “you can go back and forth,” in a sort of makeshift cheer-off you would see in a 2000s teen movie.
Everyone can find something to enjoy in the week leading up to Homecoming. You can get involved with your friends like Mason did, or you can simply be a spectator and enjoy the events from the stands. Skit, Powderpuff, and of course Spirit Week are just a few of the activities that bring the school closer together.
