Red Ribbon Week is an annual event that raises awareness on the danger of drugs and promotes drug free lifestyles. On October 24th, 2024, Sunlake’s theme for red ribbon week was, “Say peace out to drugs.” Mateo Munoz participated in the theme by wearing a tie-dye shirt. “I think that by seeing everyone participate in red ribbon week it shows that drugs are a serious thing,” Mateo says.
He and his friends decided to dress up for Red Ribbon Week to spread awareness on drug use. “It’s important for young people to stay drug free because it effects you mentally and could affect you physically as well. There’s really no point in risking it,” he said. Mateo believes it is easier to have fun without drugs instead of stressing yourself out with them. His advice on the importance of staying drug free would be to not give in because it’s not worth it. By participating in events like Red Ribbon Week, students like Mateo and his friends help spread the message that living a drug free life is important for their future.
