Volleyball is more than just a sport to the girls at Sunlake, it is something they’ve worked hard for. They have finally made it all the way to Regionals after all the hard work they put into the sport. Junior Sofia Sierra played in the volleyball Regionals with the Sunlake volleyball team and was a key player. “I have been playing volleyball for 8 years now, including playing for the state team (Team Florida) in 2023,” shared Sofia. She has put so much work into volleyball and getting to the place she is.
Every game was a challenge, but the girl worked hard and pulled through to victory. With Regionals coming up, Sofia became more and more nervous, but as time went on she was also excited about having, “the opportunity and the feeling to play in a regional championship, especially against one of our rivals. After previously losing to Steinbrenner in the regular season, the feeling of beating them when it mattered was indescribable.” Sofia’s favorite part of the game was, “The moment we won, I could feel the joy and energy between the whole team and our student section.” All the family and friends there to support the girls were ecstatic about the win. While the student sections were high with excitement, Sofia said it was also overwhelming the tension was high along with wanting to win so bad the pressure was high for the team .
Sofia favorite part of the season “was the ability to be a captain along with Millie Snider and Zayda Thomas to lead our team into the Final Four at States, as well as being District and Regional Champions.” Sofia is a great leader and helped the team get their titles. While participating in a sport you learn new things as time goes on one of the things Sofia has learned is that even if you may lose some matches in the beginning you need to believe in yourself and your team and you will succeed. That is exactly what Sofia did and she along with the whole Sunlake team and made it to the final four and will be going to states.
