This year, Seniors George Clark and Lynn Raad were crowned Sunlake’s homecoming king and queen. For both Seniors, winning Homecoming court this year was an incredible experience. Lynn says, “The first thing that came to mind was how grateful I felt to have all my friends and family around supporting me.” There were lots of smiles in the stands that night as family and friends came out to support members of the homecoming court. George says, “They were so happy to see me win, it was a very special moment for them.”
This moment was led up by all the excitement from homecoming week. George describes how homecoming week is, “. . .always one of the best times of the year, and there is really no bad part to it.” His favorite part of the whole week was powderpuff! Lynn explains how her favorite part is, “. . .always skit and morning parades because I love seeing people’s reactions to my costumes.”
Lynn ran for homecoming court with Senior Noah Downey. Lynn expresses how she was surprised that she won Homecoming Queen because she didn’t do much campaigning and, “. . . really only posted a few times on Instagram.” Despite this, Lynn explains how great it felt to see all the support from everyone.
George Clark ran with Emma Stephens for nominations and Leia Pennycooke for the final voting. His campaigning tactics included posting on social media and handing out candy at school. In the end the effort payed off. He says, “When I heard my name announced, I felt a rush of disbelief, and I couldn’t stop smiling.”
Being on Homecoming Court meant a great deal to both seniors. Lynn says, “Being on court meant a lot to me because knowing that my classmates and peers have my back enough to carry me to win was really awesome.” Lynn describes how her family went all out by making cardboard cutouts with her face on them to show how proud they were. She also talks about how nice it was to see her friends from CNA driving her jeep and just being supportive and excited for her. For George being on homecoming court was a privilege because, “. . . it showed how my peers recognize and appreciate who I am beyond just my achievements. It felt like a true honor to represent my class and be a part of such a memorable tradition.”
In the end, for these two seniors winning homecoming royalty is a memory they can cherish forever!
