Dileon Smith, a junior at Sunlake High School, faced some major issues after the two big hurricanes hit his home and the areas around it. Hurricanes Milton and Helene both left a huge mess after hitting Florida directly. After the storm, Dileon went outside to check what damage had occurred from the storm and noticed debris everywhere and some flooding in the backyard. Dileon said, “I am thankful it wasn’t anything too major and just tree branches and debris over my yard and the side of the house.” He had lost power for a few days when the hurricanes hit. Dileon and his family were lucky enough to get no water into the house because they live on an incline, yet the backyard was slightly flooded. To protect the windows from getting hit and broken, they put up wood boards and put sand bags in front of each door or entry way to ensure they stayed closed and nothing got inside. Dileon said, “Till this day there is still branches in the front of my house waiting to get picked up.” Dileon and his family are overall very thankful everyone is safe and to this day they are still trying to completely finish the clean up from the hurricane.
