Veterans’ day is a day to do many things. It’s a day to remember and celebrate all that veterans have done to keep our country safe. To many people, it’s just another day in their lives, but to some, it means so much more than that.
Patrick Nardi, a sophomore, was asked that very question: what does Veterans’ day mean to you? To him, Veterans’ Day is a day to, “honor both the veterans who have passed and the ones who are still alive today.” He isn’t just saying that either, as “both [of his] grandfathers are veterans,” with one “in the air force” and the other “in the army.” That makes Veterans’ Day more than just a bit personal, especially when he has “an interest in the military, specifically the Air Force or [the] Navy.” To celebrate Veterans’ Day, Patrick discussed, “the significance of the day for both the US and Europe,” as Europe’s Armistice Day is observed and honored in a similar fashion as how we do Veterans’ Day here in the United States.
November 11th is a day that remembers the veterans who have passed, those who are still alive, and those who are still in active duty. Patrick says we can “celebrate and honor veterans” by “thanking the ones still alive for helping make this country safer and by paying our respects to the passed on” to keep the true spirit of the holiday alive. We can all take time out of our day to honor our veterans, especially on Veterans’ Day.
