The Butter Bowl, one of the biggest football games our school participates in against our rivals, the Land O’ Lakes Gators. This year’s game was over at the Gator’s campus, and while we have a grasp on how the players feel with their losing score of 56-21, sometimes we have to take a step back and analyze how the crowd feels. How was the game for them? Will they still stand by the team?
Anna Seidelman, Junior, was in attendance, cheering on the team regardless of the odds. Anna went because, “it’s the biggest game of the year with the most competition and the biggest turnout.” The best part of the night for her was, “when the Sunlake stands would cheering for the team,” showing their support for their beloved Seahawks. Like all of our football games, the Butter Bowl had a theme to show just exactly how spirited we are, especially against our sworn enemies. Anna claimed her white lie was that she was “nonchalant” because she’s typically a, “very extroverted person and loves talking to people and making connections.” The themes always hype up the audience and get them into school spirit. Anna described the atmosphere as, “as good as it could get,” as there were people even “sitting on the grass because the stands were filled”. Jam-packed stands only contribute to the support our school has for the football team, through thick and thin. Even if we didn’t win this year’s Butter Bowl, Anna says she will, “definitely be going next year.”
The Butter Bowl is a time-honored tradition for both the students of Sunlake and Land O’ Lakes High School. It’s a time to unite against a known rival and show our support for the football team. We have never been ones to shy away from a challenge, even if we know the odds don’t look the best. We’ll always tackle problems headfirst and support the teams that give us something to be proud of.
