On November 8th, the Sunlake varsity boys soccer team had their first game against our rival, Land O’ lakes high school. Senior Brandon Loeffler played in this game and his favorite part was winning. He thought that, “the game was a success but also a fail.” The good part was that they won 2-1, but the bad part was how close the match was. He would have preferred that Sunlake had more of a lead in the match. Brandon has been playing soccer for as long as he can remember. “By the age of 3, I had already started loving running around and playing soccer,” stated Brandon. He has been playing soccer for a total of seventeen years. Soccer has been a huge part of Brandon’s life. He has always loved it along with winning, scoring, and making memories on the soccer field. Getting to play with Sunlake is a huge deal for him. Playing against our rivals, along with it being the first game of the season can be nerve-racking but the way he prepared and got in the right headspace was by forgetting about all the people who may be there, along with who came to watch him. “I think about my body and the ball – the only two things that you need to play,” stated Brandon. Another way he prepared was through music. He would arrive to the field early just to help remind himself what he is there, “to play this beautiful sport.” Learning new things while being in a sport is normal. Brandon learned that there is always space for improvement not just for himself but also for the team. He is excited for the start of the season along with this being his last year. He is ready for all the new opportunities that will come to him in the future.
