In an age dominated by digital entertainment, board games have been hidden between the cracks of Tik Tok and Instagram. But for a small club here at Sunlake High school, kids are discovering the joy of gathering around a table to participate in friendly competition. Whether they’re a seasoned player of Monopoly or just there to enjoy an easy game of Go Fish, board game club offers a space where players can meet, share their love of games, and form lasting friendships. Board game club provides a welcoming community to enjoy classic and modern games, sharpen strategic thinking, and engage with like-minded individuals. But what exactly is board game club?
Mr. Janes, the teacher in charge of the club said, ” Tabletop Gaming Club is for anyone who enjoys games of all varieties. We have a lot of fun and many people make new friends!”
In the internet infested world today, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by constant notifications, emails, and the pool of social media. Tabletop Gaming Club offers a break from screens. Instead of staring at their phones or computers, kids are using their hands to move pieces, rolling dice, and engaging in live, in-person interactions. This break from technology can have a positive impact on mental well-being. It offers a chance to unplug, focus on the present moment, and engage in creative thinking activities that our digital lives often leave little room for. At its core, the board game club is about having fun. It’s a space where people can escape from everyday worries and immerse themselves in a world of imagination and creativity. Whether they’re exploring a medieval kingdom in Dungeons & Dragons or solving a murder mystery in Clue, board games offer an exciting opportunity to step into different worlds. Jaxen Peterson a sophomore at Sunlake said, “The club is a fun after-school activity where people can sit down and enjoy games they don’t usually play. [It’s always fun] getting new members and we encourage everyone to join.”
In the end, Sunlake’s Board Game Club combines the joy of socializing and connecting with others with the thrill of competition, the incredible variety of games, and the mental stimulation they provide to create something truly special. So what are you waiting for? Join today! They meet every Thursday in room 4-156 from two to three forty-five.
