Robert Downey Jr. Is a perfect example of a modern-day inspiration to society. Downey pursued his dreams of becoming an actor from a youthful age. He managed to persevere through, and overcome a drug abuse problem. His portrayal of Iron Man also gives people a symbol to look up to. Because of this, he is important to people everywhere. 

   Robert Downey Jr pursued his acting career from a young age. According to Biography.com Editors and Tyler Piccotti, “Downey began acting as a young child. His mother, Elsie, was an actress who instilled in her son a love of acting.” Downey continued to pursue his passion for acting, and he eventually made it his full-time career. Many people are afraid or worried about pursuing their dream job, sport, goal, etc. But Downey is somebody people look at, and get inspired to pursue their own dreams.   

   Additionally, Downey overcame a drug abuse problem that he dealt with for a few years. According to Kindra Sclar, in 1996, Downey was “…arrested for possession of heroin and cocaine.” Nevertheless, he was able to overcome his addiction to drugs. According to Sclar, Downey’s wife Susan Downey, said in an interview “…Downey quit drugs for good in 2003 after she gave him an ultimatum.” Downey is a role model to help people struggling with a drug abuse. 

   On top of that, Robert Downey Jr’s portrayal of Iron Man gives people a fictional, but powerful symbol to look up to.  According to Allison Grace, Iron Man is introduced as a selfish, irresponsible, but genius businessman. In contrast, as Iron Man’s character developed, he became a selfless person who took responsibility for his actions. Downey teaches people responsibility and inspires people to be selfless through Iron Man.      

   As you can see, Robert Downey Jr. is a significant role model to society. He pursued his dream of becoming an actor from a young age, managed to overcome his addiction with drugs, and gives people a symbol to look up to and be inspired by. To conclude, Robert Downey Jr. Is an inspiration to society.
