Gaming: something most teens do and love. Streaming: a way for people to watch other people doing similar hobbies and interests as you. Streaming has been on the rise for the past couple of years. Teens specifically are turning it into money.
Current Sunlake Highschool student, Tate Carlson, is an up-and-coming streamer. Tate streams the games Roblox and Fortnite and streams on the platform YouTube and TikTok. Tate says,” It makes me happy being able to play games I enjoy and interact with my community.” Tate is most known for his fluffy hair and on his TikTok it says, “yeah I got fluffy hair=BAN”, bringing thousands of new comments every day. He has received 2.4 thousand followers and is only continuing to grow.
Streaming is one of the biggest sources of income in teens today. A great example of that is Tyler Tereso, also known as HighSky. According to Esports Charts, “…HighSky, has earned $56,700 from streaming. Tereso was active from 2018 to 2022.” That stat is from when he was 13 years old and shows how much money you can make. Tate said, “While I don’t stream to make money, I have made $110.” While streaming, you can make money through ads and donations. Tate frequently receives ice cream donations, as a reference to his hair, which is equal to about 20 cents.
Tate’s early encounter with streaming has really influenced his passion for his future. He said, “I want to build a community and be successful in the future.” Tate’s 2.4 thousand followers are primarily kids and he is looking to expand to older people. His overall goal in streaming is to have fu and promote positivity as seen on a shirt he wears often that says, “Good Vibes.”
Tate Carlson has made streaming a real source of income. It is seen in him and many other teens as well and this head stat he has had will further set him up for his life to come. Tate’s career so far, and the little time he has had, really shows how teens can make streaming a business.
