Senior Gabriella Triana has been a member of the National Hispanic Honor Society (NHHS) at Sunlake High School since her sophomore year. She submitted her application, and a few months later, she was inducted into the club. Gabriella explains that NHHS offers, “multiple volunteering opportunities where members can gain hands-on experience while earning volunteer hours. It’s a chance to learn more about Hispanic culture and make connections that can help throughout high school.”
Gabriella decided to join NHHS after being encouraged by her Spanish 4 Honors teacher, Mrs. Hernandez, and her mom. “My mom was a huge supporter and encouraged me to join. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to get involved in more extracurriculars while embracing my culture,” Gabriella shared.
The National Hispanic Honor Society is known for being selective, with strict requirements for membership to ensure academic achievement and maintain the club’s integrity. Gabriella’s favorite part of NHHS is, “how diverse our community is—it creates a passionate and engaging environment at Sunlake.” She also believes others should consider joining because, “It’s a well-respected club that offers great benefits throughout high school. We provide a variety of volunteering options for members, and we celebrate the beautiful Spanish language as we serve our community.”
Being part of NHHS has taught Gabriella a lot about herself, especially as she’s progressed to the role of President. “It’s helped me develop my leadership skills. I work with my amazing officers to plan events, and I’m so grateful for them and our sponsor, Ms. Hoch. We’ve all worked really hard this school year,” Gabriella said.
