On November 20, Tricia Alvarez came into speak to some of Sunlake High School’s forensics classes. Mrs. Alvarez came into junior Steven Gilmore’s class and talked about the process of cleaning up a crime scene. She showed the class some explicit photos of crime scenes she has had to clean up and how the bodies looked. Mrs. Alvarez showed different types of cases she had to clean up including suicides, a person being run over by a car and someone getting trapped in a house fire due to hoarding. Mrs. Alvarez also showed pictures of hoarding and what the build up looks like and how maggots can form and can cause health issues and fires. The speaker showed how to clean up different crime scenes based on their location. When a crime scene is on concrete she has to remove all the infected areas and about 6 to 12 inches of the area surrounding it. Mrs. Alvarez said that she loves her job because it makes her feel like she is making the family whole again after loosing a big part of their life. Steven found what she was talking about to be very interesting. He stated, “It’s not everyday that you get to see and hear about what a forensics cleaner does.” Steven enjoyed having a speaker in his class for the day.
