Coming off of a solid season, the Sunlake boy’s basketball team was looking to open their 2024-2025 season with a statement win at home. The Seahawks faced the Dunedin Falcons in a tight matchup inside of a packed and energetic gym full of supporters and alumni. Heading into the varsity game, the team made sure to keep a composed headspace while stretching and warming up. The strong mindset of the Seahawks allowed them to sneak past the Falcons in a 70-64 victory. Sophomore, Jeremiah Brown, who had previously been a freshman on varsity, had a lot of eyes on him, and made sure to show the work that he puts in behind closed doors. “One of the biggest things that I did during the game was my defense, which lead to easy dunks and layups for my teammates, and I also knocked down some big shots when my team needed them.” In addition to his notable performance on the court, Jeremiah made sure to shoutout his teammate, Christopher Murray, a senior guard on the team, “Chris Murray. Shoutout to him for being a great shot creator and trusting his teammates to knock down shots.” Although it was a close win, the ability of each player to trust one another allowed them to bring home their first win. The boys had celebrated the win by gaining confidence, and making sure to carry that confidence into their upcoming came against Carrollwood Day School. “I’m definitely ready to go out there and give it my all because that game is going to be another big statement game for us, and I know that there are going to be a bunch of hecklers, so I need to stay composed and calm minded,” Jeremiah exclaimed.
