On November 22, Gracie Phipps performed in The Mischief Makers. Gracie is a freshman who loves theater. She first got into theater when her sister played show-tunes around her when she was younger. She then started pursuing acting in 6th grade after she decided to take a musical theater class at Rushe. That was when theater “…just sparked the love…” that Gracie has for it today. She started auditioning for different shows in 7th grade and has been in “…quite a few shows since then”. When asked what The Mischief Makers was about, she exclaimed that The Mischief Makers was about “…three tricksters who are trying to prove that they are greatest through their stories...” In the end, Nyame, the god of the skies, “… hoped that they would repent and reform, but realized the value of what the characters had done and the laughter they brought everyone…”. In the show, Gracie played the first chief who housed a spider named Anansi for a night and took care of a piece of grain that Nyame gave the spider. She also gives a chicken to the spider after the chicken ate the grain of corn. She was also part of tech who worked backstage. Gracie stated that her favorite part of The Mischief Makers was meeting new people and “…learning new things about acting…”. Unfortunately, because of the back-to-back hurricanes that occurred in early October, The Mischief makers was pushed back multiple times. But luckily, they were finally able to perform it and “…everyone did amazing…” Gracie said that despite messing up one or two lines she knew that everyone gave it their all to make The Mischief Makers a great production. Overall, Gracie loved the experience and the people that she met. She also said that she really loved “…how much the people in the cast interacted with each other” and will have so many “good memories.”
