Fall sports are wrapping up and making way for the winter sports’ seasons to begin. Soccer is one of the many sports in store for winter. The JV girls’ team was able to beat their rivals, the East Lake Eagles, with a score of 4-1. We often have to remember that behind the score, there’s a team, and behind the team, there are the players. To really get a perspective of how the players perform as well as they do, we often have to put ourselves in their shoes.
For Charlotte Stryker, freshman, she uses her preseason experiences, which were “very vigorous and consistent” and included “plenty of conditioning” that only seemed to benefit the team. Of course everyone has different ways to prepare for everything, especially something as big as a rival game. Instead of “embracing the excitement of game day,” like Charlotte, Mara Crockett, a sophomore, “listens to music to get excited for the game,” in order to prepare. One step above preparation is focusing on the game in front of you. You can prepare all you want before kickoff, but once you’re on the field you need to keep your head in the game and perform the best you can. For Charlotte staying focused comes from, “keeping a routine at practice and warm ups at games,” while Mara feels that, “listening to music and keeping confidence,” is the better way for her to keep her head in the game. Focus was the key to winning against East Lake, one of the soccer team’s biggest rivals. Each player contributed their best because they were focused on what’s in front of them and not influenced by outside distractions. This focus gave the team some great personal highlights. Charlotte is sure to remember, “the anticipation of starting and playing the whole game for an extremely important game,” such as this one.
The JV girls’ soccer team is just one of the many sports that are making this school proud this winter. As the Seahawks continue to soar through the season, they’ll continue to make sure our school’s name is known across the state, even if they suffered an early departure from the Champions’ League. Aim high and soar higher Seahawks!
