Jack Haynes, a junior in the class of 2026 at Sunlake High School, was excited about the Butterbowl, a spirited annual event that draws enthusiasm from the student body. Despite his anticipation for the game, Jack admitted he had low expectations for Sunlake’s performance, predicting a loss. When the results confirmed his expectations, he wasn’t particularly surprised, taking it all in stride. He said, “I thought Land O Lakes was going to win…I wasn’t really surprised with the results.” Unlike many of his peers, Jack didn’t wear a “white lies” shirt, a popular trend associated with the event. While others immersed themselves in preparations for the big game, he took a more laid-back approach, doing little to get ready. Jack chose not to attend the pep rally but heard from his friends that it was an enjoyable and energizing event. Though he missed out on that part of the Butterbowl experience, he appreciated hearing about the excitement it brought to the school community. Jack stated, “I don’t know how the pep rally was because I didn’t go but I heard it was fun.” Overall, Jack’s Butterbowl experience was more low-key than that of many of his classmates, but he still enjoyed being part of the larger tradition that connects Sunlake students. While he may not have been fully immersed in the festivities, Jack appreciated the excitement and camaraderie surrounding the event, even from the sidelines.
