Ricardo Goode is a Sophomore at Sunlake High School. He said that his time at Sunlake has been, “Okay, I like the friendships I made and am grateful for the people I have met.” This week was good for Ricardo as he attended the Great American Teach-in. The Great American Teach-in is a way for educators to share their experiences. Ricardo attended one where they discussed American Sign Language. He said they talked about, “Different signs and that some signs require different handshapes, we also talked about the five parameters of sign language which are handshape, location, palm orientation, movement, and facial expressions.” The point of this event is not just to discuss educators’ experiences with teaching, but to inspire students. Ricardo did feel inspired and said it was significant to him because, “The significance that ASL has had on me was that it helped me become more comfortable talking.” Overall ASL has a huge significance in his life and it does help him a lot. To wrap things up overall he said, “The experience was an interesting one. I feel that sign language is interesting especially when you realize how specific your handshapes have to be.”
