Lucy Butler, a member of Sunlake High School’s Color Guard Team, had a big rehearsal on December 6th in preparation for their Winter Guard performance. They began the three-hour rehearsal by stretching, afterwards separating into groups where the members on the rifle line and flag line separated to practice counts on different choreography. Once they finished cleaning counts, they gathered to collaborate on the performance aspect of Winter Guard and come up with choreography for the provided music. Lucy mentioned, “Preparing for a performance requires significant time, and we plan on being ready by early January.” This marks Lucy’s second year of guard and she enjoys it. Lucy expressed, “I enjoy the thrill and energy that comes with performing. Showing the new skills we’ve developed and receiving an pleased crowd erases all the struggles that accompany our efforts.” Lucy and her teammates are highly dedicated to Color Guard, and they make an effort to practice whenever possible, several times a week. The Color Guard team is excited to take part in Winter Guard this year and is sure that their performance will be remarkable.
