Sophomore Emil Vargas is on the junior varsity basketball team for Sunlake for the first time. He did not play last year but is glad he is a part of the team this year. Emil started playing basketball when he was five to later realize he did not have love for the sport. Then, in seventh grade he watched his first college basketball game and that sparked his interest again. He said, “Basketball is something that keeps me motivated to become a better version of myself and for those around me because competition is no joke when playing the sport.” Emil said, “having a good relationship with teammates will lead you to not only be more connected but be motivated to perform consistently and confidently on the court.”
On December 9th the junior varsity team took on Central high school. They worked together to excel on offense and played well defensively to take home another win. The final score was 59-24. As the season is coming towards a close, they look to continue this momentum in upcoming games including tonight’s away game on December 20th at Wesley Chapel.
