The annual “Beauty and the Beast” event at Sunlake High School is a one-of-a-kind competition, bringing together the wrestling team and the girls’ weightlifting team in an exciting showdown. Several schools are invited to join the action, giving our athletes a run for their money. This year, the gym was buzzing with energy and for one wrestler, it was her time to shine. Cameron Lord, a Sophomore at Sunlake High school has been wrestling for a little less than two years. At the event, she faced an opponent from Steinbrenner. It was a good fight and Cameron came out victorious. She said, ” I wanted to show up and wrestle hard form my team. Even though I was a little nervous it was super exciting and I think it was one of my better matches.” Celebrating her achievements, like how she went to states last year, Cameron remains focused on her growth and passion for the sport.
Another amazing athlete also attended Beauty and the Beast. Marco Rivera, has been wrestling here at Sunlake for four years. For him wrestling isn’t a sport, it’s a way of life. He believes its the realest sport you can participate in because you are solely responsible for your victories. “I love everything about the sport.” Marco stated, “I love the grind, the toughness of it, and the bond you make with the team; it’s like a family.” During Beauty and the Beast, Marco faced a competitor from Lecanto. He wrestled hard and ended a winner. Reflecting back on his experience Marco said, “the competition was so fun! I really loved getting to compete as a team with my best friends.” Even though this is Marco’s senior year, he is determined to leave behind a legacy that won’t go unnoticed.
