A new year’s resolution is a part of everyone’s life. While each resolution may look different, they all have one thing in common, to better oneself. So at Sunlake High school I interviewed my teacher to get a look into her new year’s goal.
I interviewed Dr. Bardach, which is a Journalism teacher here on campus. I sat down in a chair next to his desk, close to the window, where we had a conversation and I asked about his New Year resolutions.
As we settled down, the bight room engulfed us, he introduced himself and I questioned the following, “Have you completed any of your goals yet, if so, what are they?” He answered, “In October I started teaching again, I was not expecting to start teaching. Most of my resolutions dealt with the University of Saint Leo, and our family business which is called “Orange Blossom Women’s Group.” As I wrote down his answer with my pink mechanical pencil I asked him my next question, “How has reaching your goals last year made this and next year easier for you, and why?” He thought about his answer for a second, looked up, and answered: “A lot of my goals from next year, at least the resolution from the university, are all about being a better teacher.” After he answered this question, I continued, “Why is a new years resolution important for you, and how will it change your life in the future?” He said, “I think new year resolutions are important because it can help us look at ourselves and grow; it aids us to become better people and I hope I can do that.”
Thereafter I only had a couple questioned left. “How did your prospective change this year as you started teaching three classes at a time?” He looked around the classroom and answered, “It was different from what I have been doing at the University, but I’ve taught two to three courses before in middle school and high school and I like variety. I also like the fact that I get to teach different ages.” As his answer was done, I continued with the next question, “How long do you think it will take you to complete all of the goals you set for the new year?” His answer stated, “Most of my resolutions don’t have an end goal, they are most processes, like working out more, but I don’t have a specific work out in mind, I just want to get stronger.” As a follow up I questioned what his favorite work out was he said, “I like to lift weights and punch a heavy bag.”
A New Years resolution provides a great opportunity to the reflect or look back at the past year and set new goals. Like focusing on health, sports, work, studies, growth and relationships as we step in to New Year.
