It feels like school has just begun and we are already almost in 2025, which is crazy to think about. Many people have chosen their New Years resolution, and many have not. Whoever you are, you should always remember that there is always a choice, and there is always a chance to start something new.
Trees rustling, kids laughing, with the sun shining down, and the sound of metal coming from the swings moving back and forth. “What are your New Years resolutions Gabby?” I ask. “Working towards my career.” Gabby is also a senior who is starting her job next year at a dog kennel. She wants to be a future veterinarian and is making a lot of progress even while going to school and earning good grades. The past year for her and many others has been rough but has had its good moments as well. When asked what keeps her going, she responded, “The good outweighs the bad I guess.” Throughout the whole interview, there where some points it got so quiet and peaceful at the park.
Along with seeing the blue sky, you could even hear the grass rustling with the wind during this unusually cold time of the year for Florida. I also asked her, “How do you think this job will help you in the future?” She responded by saying, “I love animals, and this only helps me get some experience with what I want to do with my future.” Setting a goal so early like this is so helpful later in life. She already has hands-on experience, testing her abilities, and the determination to chase such a grand goal. Not all new years resolutions have to be something small that you want to achieve, it doesn’t have to be big either, but in any case, it’s important to stay focused and never give up. Feeling the love in the air from the kids, with the noises of bouncing basketballs, wind rustling, bags and trash flying throughout the whole park, you really stop and think to yourself what life can really be about.
Even if this year has not gone according to plan, you failed that big test, you got into a lot of drama, or maybe you’re struggling with something personally, the changes that happened to you during this year do not change who you are as a person. You still got to this point because of all those things you accomplished, because of all those things that you achieved that others are too afraid to even attempt. Never be afraid to set a goal for yourself.
