Sunlake High Schools wrestling team celebrated Senior Night, honoring their graduating athletes, including senior Adrien Contes. Although he couldn’t compete due to an injury, Contes still played an important role in the event. “Senior night was great” Contes said. “I wasn’t able to wrestle due to my injury, but I was working the table and announcing our varsity players names. Watching most of them win was just amazing.” Contes started wrestling during his sophomore year, and over the past three seasons, he has grown to love the sport and his team. Looking back on his journey, he recalled one of his funniest moments on the mat. “One of my favorite memories was my second tournament ever sophomore year, and I asked the ref for a water break,” Contes explained. Though his senior season didn’t end the way he had hoped, Contes remains grateful for his time on the team and the experiences he’s had. Senior Night was a special way to celebrate not just his achievements, but also the bonds he’s formed with his teammates. As the season comes to a close, Contes and the other seniors leave behind a legacy of dedication and teamwork, inspiring the next generation of Sunlake wrestlers.
