He stated, “To me, Veteran’s Day is a day that connects families and people groups all across the world. Whether you live on the east coast or the west, whether you are from the US or immigrated from another country, the likelihood that you know a veteran or someone who is related to a veteran is nearly 100%. Veteran’s Day is one of the few days out of the year when there is no awkwardness in saying hi to that stranger with a veterans cap on or thanking you almost as if you know them. Veteran’s Day is a day of peace and communion.” While Colton doesn’t typically engage in elaborate celebrations, he makes it a point to serve his community at least once during the day. This year, Veterans Day took on a deeper meaning for him as he worked and made it a priority to assist the elderly. As he interacted with them, he took the opportunity to ask about their own traditions for honoring veterans, gaining new perspectives on the day’s significance. HE said, “For me, Veteran’s Day includes venerating and exalting those who put the most precious expense on the line— life.” One of the most profound influences on Colton’s appreciation for Veterans Day has been his grandfather, who served in the Vietnam War. As a child, Colton often sat by his grandfather’s side, listening intently to his stories of courage, camaraderie, and resilience.
