Senior Night is an event that happens across all sports at Sunlake High School, and families, friends, teammates, and coaches gather to celebrate the growth and achievements of seniors throughout their high school athletic career. The Sunlake girls soccer team had their senior night against Wiregrass Ranch High School, and they walked away with a 3-0 win. The night started out with a surprise from the underclassmen – huge banners with the names of each senior across the fences surrounded the field, seniors also enjoyed surprises and gifts from their families as well. Senior night holds a different meaning for everyone, and senior, Madylena Perez, exclaimed, “Having my senior night made me feel so grateful for this team at Sunlake as well as the past 4 incredible seasons.” At halftime, the seniors took time in the spotlight surrounded by their families, and many seniors shared things like their high school career highlights, their plans after high school, and what they expect to leave with the team. Mady shared that she wants to leave a good impression on the underclassmen as a leader, so that the girls soccer program can continue to grow. She also shared her favorite memories which included entering the state final four during her sophomore year, and then winning champions league during her junior year. Throughout the rest of the night, everyone continued to celebrate the seniors by taking post-game photos, and spending more time together after the game.
Mady has also verbally committed to play for the University of South Carolina Aiken to continue her academic and athletic career. In an instagram post announcing her commitment, she exclaimed, “I am so beyond thankful for this opportunity! I would like to thank everyone who’s helped me throughout this process. A big shoutout to my parents for everything they’ve done for me. I am thrilled to play for this program and coaching staff. Go pacers!” Mady plans to pursue a career in dermatology after college, and she hopes to own her own skin care line one day. Very soon, Mady will be signing and will be taking a step towards the future that she has worked very hard for!
