Sunlake High School’s ASL Club is bringing together students who love sign language and want to learn more about Deaf culture. Led by junior Keely Fink, the club has become a welcoming space for anyone interested in ASL. Fink, now in her third year of ASL, plays a key role in the club. “I joined ASL Club so I could be more involved in the language and meet people who are just as passionate as I am,” she said. “When Mrs. Peddie came to my class looking for officers, I knew I wanted to help get the club started—so I became president!” At their last meeting, members talked about important club details, including voting on senior cords, finalizing a T-shirt design, and sharing info on how to buy one. Her love for ASL started when she was picking her freshman year classes and noticed ASL was an option. “I’ve always been fascinated by sign language, and when I saw Sunlake offered it, I knew I had to take it” she said. Thanks to Fink’s leadership, the ASL Club continues to grow, giving students a chance to practice signing, make new friends, and connect with a vibrant language and culture.
