At Sunlake High School, AP Environmental Science teacher Mrs. Hock is known for her passion for nature and hands-on learning. But outside the classroom, she enjoys a variety of hobbies, from kayaking and paddleboarding to reading and going to the gym. “I’ve been kayaking for 20 years and paddleboarding for about five,” she shared. Her love for the water extends into her teaching, as she takes her AP Environmental Science students on an annual kayaking field trip. “It’s a great way to connect with nature, and I love seeing students discover a new appreciation for the environment.” When she’s not out on the water, Mrs. Hock enjoys unwinding with a good book. “My grandmother taught me how to read when I was four,” she said. “It’s something I’ve loved ever since.” At home, she has a full house with two dogs, two cats, a crested gecko, and a tortoise. “They keep me busy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way,” she said.

Through her adventurous spirit and love for nature, Mrs. Hock not only teaches science but also inspires students to explore the world beyond the classroom—whether through a book or a paddle in the water.
