Sunlake hosts a blood drive with the Big Red Buses multiple times a semester. The first blood drive of the new year and second semester happened last Friday. Many students participate in this event to help people out. One such student is Brandon Loeffler, a senior. Brandon has donated blood twelve times at the school and also does it outside of school any chance he gets. Brandon doesn’t just donate blood but also donates his platelets whenever asked to help out cancer patients.
Donating blood isn’t just an action for Brandon—it’s a way to carry on his family’s tradition of service. Growing up, his grandmother cared for those in need, and his parents served in the Army. Surrounded by these role models, Brandon sees donating blood as his way to help others.
When asked if he is going to continue donating blood in the future Brandon replied, “Yes, I will continue to donate any chance I get, it may take an hour but you’re not going to regret knowing that you helped someone out.” When comparing this time’s experience to previous ones of donating blood Brandon said that this one went, “very smoothly, the person who took my blood was very nice and sweet.”
