Every year Sunlake hosts a blood drive with the One Blood organization where Big Red Buses are on campus multiple times throughout the year for us Seahawks to participate in a cause greater than ourselves. Students, teachers, and staff all played a role in making it one of our schools most successful drives. Despite the nerves that come with the thought of giving blood, the atmosphere was filled with positive energy as students proudly lined up to contribute. Many knew that each donation had the potential to save multiple lives, a fact that inspired some to face their fears and step up. One of these brave participants were senior, Meagan Ollson. Meagan has donated blood since her sophomore year at Sunlake. She said, ” Usually I donate my platelets, so I know I will be helping cancer patients or anyone who is suffering from any kind of disease.” If you chose to donate platelets like Meagan, you can do it more often because they return your red blood cells back to your body. However, in our school blood drive, students and staff have the option to either donate blood or platelets. Meagan believes that everyone should donate at least once in their life if they are able to because it is an easy way to save someone’s life. The success of the blood drive was a testament to the generosity and compassion of our school, and it left everyone excited for the next event. Here’s to the lives we touched and the lives we will continue to save.
