Senior Kristy More reached an incredible milestone on January 9th, earning her 100th career win at a home wrestling meet. Kristy, who has been wrestling since her freshman year, and had prior experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu before deciding to start wrestling
Reflecting on the meet, Kristy shared, “It was a home meet, so the whole team was there—guys and girls. It was a girls’ tournament, and as a team, we took first place. I’m pretty sure all of the girls placed, with most taking first. I ended up winning my weight class and pinned or teched my way through the tournament. I had a blast, and it was really fun. We even had some past Sunlake wrestlers come in.”
For Kristy, the best part of the meet was hearing that her team placed first. “During my freshman and sophomore years, our girls’ team was so small that we never really placed as a team. It amazes me to see how much we’ve grown and how well all of the wrestlers have developed over the past year or two,” she said. Watching her team grow into the powerhouse it is today has been a surreal experience for her.

Reaching 100 wins is no easy feat—it means not only competing in over 100 matches but winning that many in just four years. As she has progressed in her wrestling journey, Kristy has developed a favorite move: “An underhook, high-c to double leg. It’s my favorite because I’ve practiced it so much, I get to lift people up, and it looks really cool in a match.
Because Kristy has been wrestling for so long she has faced many challenges like weight cut and mental aspect of wrestling. Kristy had to learn how to diet properly to avoid drastic last-minute weight cuts before meets. “In wrestling, whatever you believe is the truth,” she shared, explaining how she had to build confidence in herself and believe that she belonged on the mat with top competitors and wasn’t just some wrestler.
Kristy had many memorable moments in her wrestling career, one of her most memorable moments was winning the regional title during her junior year. “Winning that title gave me the confidence I needed for states. It was the first tournament where I realized I could truly compete with top-notch girls and that I wasn’t just ‘some wrestler’.” she shared
She has a huge love for wrestling she shared how she not only learned life lessons but you’re also on a team but compete individually. “I’ve never really been great at team sports, but I love being part of a team. Wrestling gives me that experience while still allowing me to compete one-on-one on the mat,” she explained.
Initially, Kristy debated whether she should even join wrestling, but now, looking back, she’s grateful she did. As she prepares to graduate, she feels bittersweet about leaving the team but is excited for the experiences ahead especially the opportunity to wrestle at the college level.
