Sophomore Jeremiah Brown plays shooting guard on the varsity boy’s basketball team at Sunlake. Basketball was more than just a game to him, and he had been surrounded by the sport from a young age. His aunt, a coach at Bishop McLaughlin high school, introduced him to the sport early on, and from that very moment he knew this was his passion. One of his favorite memories playing basketball so far was when he traveled to California for a tournament, and ended up being surprised by family that he hadn’t gotten the chance to see for a while. As far as right now, Jeremiah’s explains that goal is to play overseas, but he keeps himself open to the college route, believing that he will continue his basketball career there if the opportunity is presented to him. His dream is to eventually play in the NBA but, wanting to be realistic, Jeremiah chose to set his goal at overseas. When asked who drives him to be great, he explains that, “My inspiration is my dad, because he pushes me to do better than he was when he was younger, and he knows I can make it… he just has to keep me on the right path.” Just recently, on January 28th, Jeremiah played a solid game against the Mitchell Mustangs. The game was intense from the start, but the Seahawks team came out strong, going on an early run in the first half. The Mustangs put up a good fight, but Jeremiah and his team continued to gain momentum as the game continued. With strong defense and persistent scoring on offense, Varsity basketball took the win at home with a final score of 77-74. Jeremiah credits the win to his team, saying that each of his teammates works hard and stays committed to the game plan, so that they can achieve their goals all together.

About the Contributor

Hello, my name is Alexa Hemmers. I am a part of a group of new yearbook staffers as a sophomore. I enjoy writing for our school newspaper because each article will be about a different occasion, and we interview different people each time. My favorite things to do in my free time are run, go to the beach with my family and hanging out with my boyfriend and teammates. My teammates from Sunlake cross country and track are like family to me because some of us have known each other since sixth and seventh grade. I am excited to learn how to enhance my writing and construct the best yearbook filled with memories.
