Maeve Shea is a freshman at Sunlake High School. With her starting a new school it’s a lot of new things to get used to but she said, ” My Sunlake experience has been good so far. I made a lot of new friends and met so many people.” A majority of the people she has met have been through Sunlake’s softball team. Currently, she is on the Junior varsity team. She says that overall, “I love being a part of the Sunlake Softball team. Everyone is so encouraging and they make practice so fun.” Junior Varsity began their season with a preseason tournament where they ended up facing Land O Lakes. It was a hard-fought game but Sunlake would win. Maeve regarding the overall team performance said ” When we played against Land O Lakes we won by around six runs. It was a really fun game, and our team did very well.” It was also a decent game for Maeve as well as she said, ” I think I played pretty decently. My hitting was good: I got 2 at-bats. In 1 of them, I was walked and in the other, I got a hit to the center field. I also played 3rd base for pretty much the whole game, but 2 innings. “It’s a huge thing to win games like these against our rivals but it means a lot to the players too. To be a part of such a great group is a highlight of sports. Overall Maeve highlighted that, “The best part of being on the softball team is the girls and the coaches. They all look out for each other and work well as a team. The coaches are great and know how to coach you without being negative toward you.
