Flag Football is played by more than 20 million people in more than 100 countries. Flag Football is rapidly increasing in popularity and high schools across the country have noticed this change. Sunlake is one of many schools that have included Flag Football and have recently had tryouts. Kate Smith is one of the many girls who made the team and is very excited about the upcoming season.
Kate Smith is a sophomore here at Sunlake. She likes going to the “…gym, cooking, and hanging out with my friends.” Kate started playing Flag Football after she saw her brother playing and “…just wanted to copy what he was doing.” She has been playing Flag for about 3 years, but she “…started out at tackle…” and played that for 7 years.
The Tryouts were January 26th and 27th at Sunlake. During the tryouts Kate felt confident and felt like she did very well with her overall performance. When she heard the news that she had made the team she was very “…excited to get the season started…” and couldn’t wait to “…get going with the other girls that made the team…” She now plays Quarterback, Wide Receiver, and Linebacker. The first game for the team is on February 18th and they are all very excited. Kate stated that she will definitely continue playing Flag Football through her High-School career and into college.
