Sunlake students were in for quite a treat this month as both Valentine’s Day and President’s Day were considered school holidays, leading to a rare four day weekend. Sophomore Taylor Schamaun, like many of the faculty and students, took this extra time to her advantage by going to the beach on Valentine’s day with her family.

According to Schamaun, her time at the beach was “nice,” although she thought that the water was rather chilly. On the beach, she ate a nice meal with her family, played a few rounds of soccer, swam for a bit, and took a long walk. As she is on the Sunlake Girl’s JV Soccer team, Schamaun woke up bright and early the next day for a soccer game. She mentioned, “…which we won.” After the game, she got her nails done at a salon and later was taken to an event venue/restaurant called Tiki Cove where Schamaun was met with a surprise birthday party organized by her mother celebrating her 16th birthday, which was earlier that week on February 11th.
While Schamaun didn’t do anything particularly special to celebrate Valentine’s Day or President’s Day, she appreciated having a longer break than usual as it allowed her to sleep in and and spend more quality time with her loved ones. “Although,” she said, “I don’t know why we had Valentine’s off because we had so many hurricane days.” But Schamaun wasn’t too unhappy about the break off school days.

Despite enjoying the long break, Schamaun was also excited to continue the rest of quarter, as she will now be allowed to obtain her license and drive to school. She is prepared to finish off the quarter strong by maintaining her good grades and finishing her remaining work on this year’s Yearbook, which she is particularly eager about; “It’s going to look amazing!”
Hey everyone! My name is Taylor and I am a yearbook staffer and photographer here at Sunlake High School. I am currently a sophomore and love every second I spend in this class. I have been working behind the scenes since 8th grade year, where I took photos and conducted interviews for the yearbook. The first year in high school I built my editing skills in a digital design class in which I learned how to work in photoshop. Now I write for The Perch and am involved with the production of the 2024-2025 yearbook. In my free time I play soccer for the school and for a club. I also enjoy painting, sketching and reading. I also work for doggy daycare and boarding company. Overall I am so happy to be here. Everyone in yearbook works so hard and I am glad I have this opportunity to preform along side them!
