The Sunlake High School girls’ lacrosse team stepped onto the field against St. Petersburg High School with something to prove. After falling short against them last season, the Seahawks were determined to flip the script—and that’s exactly what they did. For junior Sammy Mungai, the victory was more than just another win. “The game against St. Pete was a lot of fun,” Mungai said. “We lost to them last year, so winning this time around gave us a huge confidence boost, and the team played well.” Having played lacrosse for almost five years, Mungai knows that a team’s energy can make all the difference. This game was no exception. From the opening draw to the final whistle, the Seahawks stayed locked in, never letting up no matter what the scoreboard showed. “Our overall energy was really high and excited, regardless of if St. Pete scored or not, and that really stood out to me,” she said.

With this win fueling their momentum, Sunlake’s lacrosse team is looking ahead to the rest of the season, ready to bring that same energy to every game.
