Ellie Perez, a freshman sensation on the varsity soccer team, has quickly become a standout player for Sunlake High School. Despite her young age, Ellie has demonstrated exceptional skill, leadership, and determination on the field. On February 20th, the girls’ team had their state game against Bartram Trail and unfortunately lost 1-0. We asked Ellie a few questions about the game and her experience during the game, This is what she said. She was first asked how the team prepared before the state’s game, and she stated, “Our team prepared before the game by blasting music to pump us up!” It’s honestly amazing hearing that the soccer team is very supportive and brings them in an uplifting mood before a game. Secondly, she was asked if she could describe any key moments during the game, and she responded with, “A key moment was getting to play a state final four game with my sister Madylena (Mady) Perez. (Senior)” Another question Ellie was asked was how the team felt dealing with the loss, and she stated, “We were definitely sad and could have done better, we’re also sad about not being able to play with the seniors anymore. The last question she was asked was if their were any standout players, which she responded with, “Mady Perez and Kayla Bays (Sophomore) really tried to keep us motivated to try and win.” Even though the Seahawks didn’t win, it makes them stronger as a team, and they still played their absolute best. Good job Seahawks, until next season!
